Mental Healthcare Assistant Training UK

Mental healthcare assistant training in the UK is made simple, and more affordable for Grosvenor Nursing Agency healthcare assistants and workers. Mental healthcare assistants (HCAs) practicing or looking to work in the United Kingdom, need to complete the minimum annual training requirements, which includes practical moving and handling training.

As a proud member of the A24Group, Grosvenor Nursing has negotiated reduced rates on training courses for mental health care workers. The mandatory HCA training courses are aligned to the UK Core Skills Training Framework (CSTF), and are required for our NHS framework contracts, private clients, CCGs and mental health facilities in England, Scotland and Wales.

Requirements To Work As An Agency Healthcare Assistant Or Support Worker

Below are the basic requirements needed to register and work with us in the UK:

  • Formal training: Formal training and vocational training are accepted to be a Band 2 or 3 healthcare assistant.

  • Experience – work history is required to work in the medical industry. If you do not have experience, we can assist with shadows shifts for a 6-month period to build your portfolio. Remember that moving up the band system depends largely on your experience as well as training, and clinical hours, so all these combined are invaluable to HCA staff across the UK. Very importantly to note, is that a Band 2 HCA will have less experience than a band 3 HCA.

  • Band 3 healthcare assistants need to be certified to administer medications.

  • Basic life support – this is a requirement for most nursing roles and is included with our mandatory online training courses.

  • Moving and handling – for many facilities, especially hospice or care homes, you need to have moved and handling to know how to assist patients who fall or faint. This too is included with the courses which we will be looking into shortly.

What Online Training Courses Are Best For Nurses In The UK?

With so many options available to upskill, it can be difficult to know which path to take. So, by making use of our Compliance Passport on Staffshift, you can get clear guidance on training certificates which can be added to your profile to open new working opportunities, and ultimately higher pay rates.

You will get 3 types of notifications relating to compliance and training on the Staffshift App:

  • Basic compliance – this is to be cleared to work entry level shifts.

  • Documents to expire soon – this is for existing compliance items which have an expiry date, affording you the opportunity to update documents before they expire, and remaining an active member of our staff

  • And lastly, there are eligibility notices on available shifts within Staffshift, which shows which training courses can be taken to become eligible.

Use the eligibility notices to plan your training.
